A real blast from the past....

Sweet gift book for the lovelorn. Beautiful illustrations that bring back memories of reading Golden books as a child. The words are simple (for adults) and kind and hopeful. A good gift for the brokenhearted friend in your life, especially if they appreciate vintage or nostalgia. Of course, true to the books these illustrations are compiled from, don't expect to see people of color or same sex couples. (Think there is one black child and no other non-whites, if memory serves. I first borrowed this at the public library, then bought for a lesbian friend who had just experienced a rough break-up.) If this bothers you, this may not be the book for you. But the pictures are sweet and the words/message about love universal IMO.

An enjoyable read but...better after the 1st 50/80 pages. I admire the brothers very much and finished the book in 2 sittings. So..the 1st 50 pages...its a difficult read as they explain that due to their very encouraging parents (both doctors) their grammar school..their location thats great for riding...their swim class and new bikes as presents....is a part of their success...well yes....and a lot of hard work of course...but listening to them go on about their priveledges gets a little boring for the first half....the later half is a better read.

Interesting how the book bounced back and forth between Alistair and Jonny's perspective of life, training and competing. By the end of the book you have a good idea of each brother's quirks. Imagine training at the world class level daily, growing up training etc with one of your most competitive opponents.

The Brownlee brothers do a great job of providing an inside look at the rise to champions in triathlon. The dynamics of two brothers and the differing personalities was fascinating. Excellent book and I'll be cheering for them in 2020 summer Olympics.

I'm not crazy about some of the organization of this book, as it jumps back and forth among periods in the Brownlees' lives. But it's a fun read and these are some amazing athletes. For anyone interested in triathlon, or in endurance sports in general, you won't find many books more compelling than this one.

Admire the Brownlees bros and enjoyed watching them in the Olympics but the book is pretty flat and gets worse as it progresses. I've seen the two author thing before and it really doesn't work, disrupts the flow too much.

Nice to meet the Brownlees.Down to earth very hard workers who reached the top by working harder when others went inside.No great surprises and relatively simple language but its not rocket science, its sport.Would have liked more detail on their training specifics.

I normally get bored when reading books and often don’t finish them. Not the case with this book however. Easy to read and it offered some great insights into how these guys tick.
