From the Inside Flap

I am a bunny. My name is Nicholas. I live in a hollow tree.In the spring, Nicholas likes to sniff the flowers, and in the summer, watch the frogs in the pond. In the fall, he watches the animals getting ready for winter, and in winter, watches the snow falling from the sky. This beautifully illustrated, gentle story is one of GoldenÂ’s most beloved titles.

After a stint in the army, Scarry showed his portfolio to one of the original editors at Golden Books in 1948. There he found the perfect home for his children’s books. In the extraordinary career that followed, Scarry illustrated well over 100 books, many of which have never been out of print.

This book is about a bunny's perspective on the four seasons. He describes changes to weather, nature and things he likes to during each season. It has the beautiful, detailed artwork that is so characteristic of classic golden books. It's definitely a must for any children's library and any golden book collector. The subject matter here (nature, seasons) is a nice change from talking about usual themes in a lot of toddler books like bedtime routines, body parts, colors/shapes.

I bought this book for my son because it seemed vaguely familiar. When it arrived and I opened it up to read it to him, I almost burst into tears. I had a copy of this book as a little girl, but I'd forgotten all about it. It has a wonderful, simple story and absolutely stunning illustrations. I will never forget about it again.I love the board book format--much sturdier than the paper Golden Book I grew up with. My son is beginning to pick this book up more and more, and I hope it becomes one of his favorites. I don't think I will ever tire of reading it.

This is such a sweet board book. The shape of the book is long and thin. The simple illustrations by Richard Scarry are delightful. My 19 month old daughter loves examining the pages and seeing the bunny in the various seasons. Her very favorite page is the last one where the bunny is curled up in his hollow tree under a cozy blanket during winter. This book has quickly become a favorite in our house.

My 1 year old daughter's favorite book. We love the true detail of the pictures of the flowers and birds. Not like some books where everything is all bubbly and cutsie. Of course the bunny is a little more animated and unrealistic standing under a toadstool, but the general detail is realistic which is important to me. The story is simple and cute and each page takes you to a different outdoor scene like falling leaves in the fall, beautiful snow covered pine trees in the winter, rain in the summer, a cute pond scene with frogs, and a page full of beautiful colored realistic butterflies, and yet another page of beautiful daffodils. My 3 year old loves it also and it never stays on the shelf for long. Very sturdy board book also. Love it!

This tall board book (roughly twice the height of typical board books) is beautifully illustrated fully on both sides of the pages; the left and right sides form one scenary, with a sentence on a light background. Unlike many recent board books which copy/paste simple drawings, and only 1 side of the page at that, this book is a work of art. It's among the favorite books of my daughter and son since birth. We can easily spend several minutes between page turns, and the scenes are enjoyable even to the tired parent.Their eyes linger edge to edge, consuming all the colorful flora and fauna, and experience the progression of the seasons from Spring to Winter. My 3-year old now likes to count and discuss various details of the book. The sentences are brief, yet cute and descriptive of the scene. The final page of the book has Nicholas the Bunny going to sleep, which I is our kids' cue to also go to sleep. This and Goodnight Moon are popular classics for excellent reason.

I wasn't sure about this book when I finally received it. It was so highly rated but I did not have it as a child and I had never read it. It was a filler item in the Santa stocking for one of my daughters. At first read, the story is so simple and almost "boring" that I almost put it away. Then I remembered some of the reviews I read mentioning the parent/child interaction the reviewers remembered from reading the book as a child, so I tried it out with my girls. We pick the flowers with Nicholas, we blow the dandelions, we pick out our favorite butterflies and hold out our hands to catch snowflakes. It is so much more special than the story alone to have something that you and your child imagine and play at together. I Am a Bunny is now a favorite thanks to this wise advice and I'm sure it would not be if I just read the story and turned the pages without engaging with my kids. This one needs you to play along and you will be glad you did.

This is a wonderful book with beautiful illustrations. On each page it describes what the bunny does each season in short sentences. This is one of my 18 month old sons favorite books and one of my favorite books to read to him. The illustrations are so realistic looking. He recognizes all of the animals, trees, flowers, etc. for what they are which I really love. He can name so many things in this book. We read it almost every day. I’m looking for similar books to this one because it’s been such a big hit. Highly recommend for any child ages 0-5. I think it may be a bit too simplistic for ages too much older than 5.

I had forgotten all about this book until a mommy blog I read put it at the top of their best books for babies list. I loved this book as a child. I can remember reading it over and over again. I loved the beautiful, colorful illustrations by Richard Scarry. I can remember counting the birds, the butterflies, the frogs, the dandelion seeds, the leaves, but not the snowflakes- too many! Growing up in the desert which doesn't really have seasons, I was fascinated by this book's depiction of all four seasons. And the little bunny is so cute! This book is magic to me. I have no idea where the copy from my childhood is so I bought a new one and my daughter Phoebe and I are reading it together. I hope she'll love it as much as I do.

The only thing I have ever come close to collecting are children's books. So my title says something. It probably says something about nostalgia, too, but really this is an excellent book. Easy to read. My children memorized the pages before they could actually read and enjoyed reciting the book aloud. Beautiful pictures. Makes you want to take a walk through nature. It is a classic.
