Christian Reus-Smit is Professor of International Politics and the Head of the Department of International Relations at the Australian National University. His research focuses on the politics of international ethics and institutions, and he has published widely on issues of global governance, multilateralism, human rights, and international relations theory.Duncan Snidal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago, where he is also Chair of the Committee on International Relations. He is Director of the Program on International Politics, Economics, and Security (PIPES) and is currently Chair of the Committee on International Relations at the University of Chicago. Professor Snidal's research focuses on international relations with an emphasis on international political economy and institutions.

Some chapters are better than others, obviously (the chapter on institutionalism/neoliberalism and constructivism were two of the better chapters). Most of the explanations are balanced so that you get a practical approach to the value of each theory as well as a healthy dose of criticism. I liked how each chapter is very well-cited so there are lots of avenues for further research. This book helped me a lot in preparing my thesis and for my comprehensive exam a couple of weeks ago. If you are looking for a source that captures the tenets of all the theories in a balanced and constructive way, I recommend this book.

Fantastic overview of some of the key fields of IR thought. Some chapters are better than others but each contain a very fluid narrative of the prescribed topic. Of course, my assessment may be due to personal preference. I am using this book as a part of a study program for PhD comprehensive exams and would highly recommend.

This is a very good summary of the field of international relations. Better than many other IR readers and less expensive in paperback. A few sections are starting to show their age a bit, but it is good enough and comprehensive enough that I assign it to my intro IR students.

This is a good starter book for anyone starting out in International Relations or Polical Science.

Great book for IR.it covers everything comprehensively. Keep that as a handy guidebook for your studies. Highly recommend for grad studies.
